Jefferson County High School’s Chemistry 1 class worked together on generating colorful flames.  The teacher, Shannon Ballard, instructs her students on the importance of safety while showing the captivating things you can learn from chemical compounds.  Jeremyah Beler, a student in Mrs. Ballard’s class said, “When different electrons change energy level, they change color.”  The students begin by lighting their Bunsen burners to test what colors the unknown metal ions will make.  After examining the bright colors, the students write their observations into the data table in their lab notebooks.
